This is a very interesting article regarding satire. Many a poet are using satire to ridicule today’s society; however, this is a tradition dating back to Greece. The center of intellect being Athens, much satire was aimed at Athens’ society; nevertheless, “with the diatribe…we enter a wider world than the polis of Athens, a world which is more concerned with a particular class in the oecumene than with a particular society”(Gale Group).

I wonder how much today’s satirists borrow from the satirists of that time.

What a beautiful portrait of our lovely queen! If only she could be more involved in politics and share at least a little power with Louis. Our queen is setting an ill example to the rest of us, women: her gambling and excessive entertainment will bring her down someday. In her place, I would take advantage of such a high position and enforce the divine rules of morality in our country. But it is surely very difficult for her, a devout Christian, to witness how her husband takes on so many mistresses. I say, Mademoiselle de La Valliere should feel guilty for distracting Louis from his wife! At least Marie-Therese has bore Louis an heir!

Oh, may our queen have the strength to overcome these difficulties.

Promoting Modesty in Our Society:

Here is a little something that warmed my heart and encouraged me to believe that all is not lost in this sexually-driven world. “If people are meant to act virtuously, and I believe that they should, then I think that they need to restrain themselves”(The Daily Texan). I’m glad that some young folk still cherish the ideas of modesty and chastity.

A little while ago, my dear friend Celimene and I were having a very genial conversation. I was, with the sincerest intent, telling her to perhaps be a little more meek and reserved in regards to relations with the male gender. I even explained to her that all this was said “out of a zealous interest in [her]”. However, Celimene replied in a cold, stinging manner; allegedly, she overheard some company of high virtue saying that “[my] prudery and bustling zeal [appears] to have a slight appeal.”

What boldness! To think that she could utter such words! Instead of degrading my persona, she should look at herself, and realize how unchaste her lifestyle is.

Well, first of all, I usually do not allow myself to be in a bad mood, for it discloses negative feelings. One must always be modest and honorable; therefore, one must not show when they are unhappy. This seeks undesirable attention and arouses conflict and unneeded arguments, which are most disgraceful.

However, if I ever am in a wicked disposition, I recite a prayer, asking to be in a better mood. It always works, for humility and reverence for Him are key to being happy.
